Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is true, no matter how funny the name may sound. Just like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), its a viral respiratory illness. It was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012.
Most people who have been confirmed to have MERS-CoV infection developed severe acute respiratory illness. They had fever, cough, and shortness of breath. About half of these people died.
The World Health Organization (WHO) issued its travel guidance for pilgrims going to the annual haj in Saudi Arabia and said the health risk posed by the MERS virus was "very low." It is very unlikely any epidemic will ensue. The public needs to be reassured, But trust our NIgerian media, they have started blowing it out of proportion with big English. Nigerian we hail thee.
