SOGON |
The Society of
Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) is the umbrella professional
organization of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians in Nigeria, inaugurated in
April 1965.
It is an affiliate
member of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and
the African Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AFOG), with members
distributed across the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory of
Nigeria and outside the country.
Its Lagos Chapter today had the 1st Distinguished Elders' Guest Lecture at the elegant hall of Protea Hotels and Suit Ikeja.
The lecture was delivered by Chief (Dr) Abayomi Finnih, a distinguished
Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Chairman and Chief Medical Director of Finnih
Medical Centre. A former President of the Society of Gynaecologists and
Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON), a fellowship member of numerous professional
bodies both nationally and internationally.
A chieftain of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Dr. Abayomi Finnih is no doubt an elder.
He commenced his lecture with a brief history on the practice of obstetric and gynecology in Nigeria from his experience, reiterating the challenges faced especially in the area of Maternal Mortality. He went on to state the causes of maternal mortality which has since being the same till date since his time in practice. Although acknowledging efforts made so far in reducing maternal mortality, he asked the questions why these cause have not being stopped.
